Happy Cyber Monday! We hope that you enjoyed all the turkey you could eat and shopped till you dropped over the long holiday weekend. It may have been hard to get up this morning, but at least you were greeted with countless emails about sales awaiting you online!
We have been deleting Cyber Monday emails all day…does anyone take the time to read those? It seems that more and more consumers are turning to online shopping for the majority of their holiday buying. The Cyber Monday sales last year were unprecedented, with a 20.6% increase from 2012, totaling nearly $2.29 billion.
So why are so many shoppers choosing to make their holiday purchases online? Cyber Monday is the first full workday back after the long holiday weekend. It is convenient for those with desk jobs to browse the abundant sales during the workday. Have you been browsing at your desk today? You may have noticed that companies are pushing online sales more than ever. E-commerce websites are much easier to use than they were just a few years ago. Additionally, if you weren’t able to find your favorite electronic device in stores on Friday, odds are that it is on sale somewhere online today.
Along with convenience, there is also the delivery to consider. The U.S. Postal Service announced this year that it would be delivering 7 days a week to large cities and areas with high demand. Hopefully this means that all of our holiday gifts will arrive on time. We can’t help but feel guilty about making our post officers work on their day off, but they are simply responding to demand. The increasing number of online purchases requires more packages to be delivered in the same amount of time. Are you more confident that your holiday gifts will arrive on time with the added delivery day?
So whether you are a Cyber Monday enthusiast, or are simply intrigued by the recent development in our consumer culture, today is coming to an end. It may be worth reading some of those emails or checking out these deals to see if you can find a steal!
